A couple days after the paint was dry I stopped by to check out the progress that the carpet & tile layers were making--and it's a good thing I did. The person laying the tiles had inverted the tile colors for the public rooms with the tile colors for the private rooms. Thankfully, since I had a hard copy of the order & instructions printed out it was an expensive mistake that the contractor had to absorb.

Moral of this story: pop in frequently, during the process, to insure that contractors are following your instructions exactly.

Here the reception area has only one application of paint and the floor is still cement slab.

Soft tan and burnt sienna walls emphasize the Italian villa in the art work. Burnt umber mahogany countertops accent and pull out the color of the frames. Warm colors, such as these, give the feel of warmth and richness to an inviting area.

The soft tan walls add continuity through out the space and serves as a tranquil backdrop for dusty plum & moss green accents.

Welcome

I have always loved interior spaces; the furnishings, colors, lighting & personal items that make such a space unique. I've enjoyed watching the trends come & go. Over the years I've enjoyed seeing the differences in decor influenced by the geography & cultures from the Northeast and the deep South to the aired Southwest of the United States.

As a child my favorite book was Miss Suzy by Miriam Young. I loved looking at the illustrations and reading about how she cared for & decorated her home(s). As a young girl I drafted my first floor plan of my "future home", which house strongly resembled that of the Brady Bunch. As a young bride I tried with all my might to transform the cinder-block look of our first student-housing apartment to something of warmth & beauty, and on a very limited budget.

I've had the opportunity in recent years to remodel a thirty year old home, help family in their decorating dilemma's and most recently venture into the commercial side of interior decorating. I hope to use this blog as a place to showcase, but also to receive inspiration and continue growing & adapting.
